Steven A. Corcelli
Interim William K. Warren Foundation Dean, College of Science

Steve Corcelli is a theoretical chemist who uses advanced computer simulations to understand the structure and dynamics of biomolecules in solution. He was appointed Interim William K. Warren Foundation Dean of the College of Science in 2025, effective July 1, 2025. His research integrates molecular dynamics and enhanced sampling techniques to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of biomolecular interactions, such as how small molecules bind to DNA. These simulations provide atomistic insights into processes critical to drug design and molecular recognition.
Corcelli earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Brown University and his Ph.D. from Yale University, followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He joined the University of Notre Dame faculty in 2005 and has received national recognition for his research, including an NSF CAREER Award, a Sloan Research Fellowship, and the Camille and Henry Dreyfus New Faculty Award. He is also a Fellow of the American Chemical Society.
A dedicated educator, Corcelli has received multiple teaching awards, including the Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C. Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and the Thomas P. Madden Award for Excellence in Teaching First-Year Undergraduates. He has authored over 90 publications and given more than 100 invited talks.
Before he was appointed interim dean, Corcelli had served in several leadership roles at Notre Dame, including Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Programs and Faculty Development in the College of Science. He is also active in national service, including leadership roles with the American Chemical Society and Telluride Science.
