The University Archives is responsible for the collection, maintenance, and preservation of the official records of the University of Notre Dame as well as other records that document the life of the Catholic Church and her people as lived in the American context.

The Theodore M. Hesburgh Library and the eight other libraries on campus contain a total of over 3.3 million volumes, more than 34,000 electronic titles, more than 3 million microform units, amd more than 29,000 audiovisual items in support of learning, teaching and research.

The largest college library in the world when it opened in 1963, today the Hesburgh Library is the campus leader in identifying and acquiring information resources critical to learning, teaching, and research.
