    David Wuolo, University of Minnesota, Morris, asked the PAMnet group to provide reasons for not canceling print Mathematical Reviews. Contact David for a summary of the responses.

    WHAT'S NEW ON PAM WEB PAGE
    The new streamlined URL for the PAM web site is (http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/pamnet/). The "Web Workbench" section now includes do-it-yourself HTML and web site building resources.

    GCNEWS--NEW PUBLICATION
    Angela Cotera (JPL/Caltech) and Heino Folcke (University of Maryland) have recently begun GCNEWS, an electronic newsletter on Galactic Center research. This newsletter provides current journal abstracts as well as a short article bimonthly. For further information or to subscribe to this free publication, use Netscape to access for best results.

    PHYSICS/MATHEMATICS ELECTRONIC JOURNALS
    Contact Brian Simboli, University of Pennsylvania (simboli@math.upenn.edu) for a summary of responses on electronic journals in physics and mathematics that have, or have had, print counterparts. Also included are cites to articles that give an overview of the current status of electronic publishing.

    ADC ELECTRONIC NEWS
    Barbara Palmer, Center for Astrophysics Library, indicates that the Astronomical Data Center Bulletin was superseded by the ADC Electronic News which is still published quarterly.

    FERMILAB FILESERVER
    Fermilab has a full-text server up and running on the web. Further information can be obtained from Sara Tompson.

    GENERAL CATALOGUE OF VARIABLE STARS
    General Catalogue of Variable Stars, v.5, is available via anonymous ftp from the Sternberg Institute. The zip files can be retrieved at neptun.sai.msu.su; enter the directory /pub/groups/cluster/gcvs/ <

    LIBRARY CATALOGS VIA THE WEB
    WebCATS, created by Peter Scott and Doug Macdonald, can be used to search library catalogs via the web. WebCATS allows you to search geographically, by type of library, and by library catalog vendor. There is also a link to the HYTELNET home page that gives users access to telnet accessible library catalogs.

    SEARCH ENGINES ON THE INTERNET
    There is an article on search engines on the Internet in New Scientist, v.150, no. 2024, April 6, 1996.

    PAM LISTSERV HAS MOVED
    The PAMnet server has been moved to Yale University. Messages to everyone on the list should be sent to SLAPAM-L@YALEVM.CIS.YALE.EDU All new members must subscribe by sending a request to the new list owner, David Stern (david.e.stern@yale.edu). Your local REPLY option can be used to send messages to the entire group. Your local FORWARD option should be used if you intend to send a response only to the originator of a message. More information on how to handle vacation mail and other special commands can be found on the web.

    ASTRONOMY LIBRARIANS' WEB DIRECTORY
    Uta Grothkopf, ESO, reports that web addresses are being added to the web list of astronomy librarians. Take a look at it and let Uta know if a link to your library's home page should be added.

    PARTY GIRL
    Mary Ann Southern recommends the video "Party Girl", particularly for middle aged female librarians; she points out that the movie does have an R rating.

    ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS SUPPLEMENT SERIES
    Free 1996 access is available to the Astronomy and Astrophysics Supplement Series online. This publication contains data papers and extensive data material forming the basis of papers in the main journal published by Springer Verlag. Check it out!

    ROYAL SOCIETY CATALOGUE OF SCIENTIFIC PAPERS
    Math Reviews is evaluating putting the entire contents of the above title covering the period 1800-1900 on CD-ROM. Contact Dr. Keith Dennis, Executive Editor of Math Reviews, for further information and to indicate that your library might be interested in this product. Cost might be as low as $1,000.

    HANDBOOKS OF MATHEMATICAL FORMULAE
    Deborah Wilson inquired about a good handbook of mathematical formulae for purchase. Many good sources are currently out of print. According to Books in Print, Dover has a reprint edition of Hamming's Numerical Methods for Scientists and Engineers for $15.95 and McGraw-Hill has a paperback version of Spiegel's Mathematical Handbook of Formulas and Tables for $13.95. [Ed. note: A call to CRC Press indicated that CRC Press' Handbook of Mathematical Sciences, 6th ed., is currently out of print.]
