Zahm's History

Est. 1937

Father Zahm

Built in 1937, Zahm House is home to 240 men, who proudly refer to themselves the Zahmbies. Zahm is named for Father John Augustine Zahm, CSC, who graduated from Notre Dame in 1871. Zahm House is known for its very tight-knit community and open door policy. Few dorms have as much spirit or as deep a commitment to community service. Zahm was recently recognized by the student body as "Zahm House," which it has been refered to by its residents for years. Zahm recently joined forces with a program called "Hannah and Friends." This is an orginzation founded by Charlie Weis for is daughter Hannah. The dorm volunteers service and helps with fundraisers for the charity. All of the profits from Zahm's Foodsales Pizza Kitchen are donated to "Hannah and Friends". The future for "Hannah and Friends" looks great and we are all excited to see what will come. Hannah & Friends

Zahm has long supported a charity called There Are Children Here, an afterschool program for South Bend kids. After many years of great service to the community, TACH is not running this year (though we hope and pray it will continue in the future). Therefore, Zahm hall gov. decided to team up with Hannah and Friends, another organization committed to serving young people.Hannah and Friends

The charity was founded by Charlie Weis and his wife Maura in recognition of their daughter Hannah. She has been affected by developmental disorders. The two hope to take the lessons they learned from Hannah and make a difference in the lives of others. To start the partnership many Zahmbies helped hand out rally towels to spread the word at the home football opener against Penn State. That was just the start of another tradition.
