Our program has remained in the top 12 nationally ranked club teams since 2001 and has been ranked as high as #1. For the past 7 years, Notre Dame has seen at least 2 players earn First Team All-Midwest Conference spots, as well as at least 1 earn Second Team All-Midwest Conference spots. The Competition While we train and compete at a high level, we also welcome any students who have never played water polo before. Since our season is in the spring, we use the fall semester to review water polo basics for those who have not played before and to condition and teach team strategy to experience and inexperienced players. We usually compete in 1 or 2 tournaments toward the end of the semester to prepare for the spring. We begin competing in tournaments at the beginning of February, traveling around the Midwest and East Coast to compete against nationally ranked club teams and Division II and III varsity teams. Tournament trips this year include James Madison University, the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Miami, OH University, and 10 days in Southern California during Spring Break for a tournament at CSU San Bernardino and matches against club team Cal Poly SLO and NCAA Division II and III teams such as CSU San Bernardino and LaVerne University. Past trips have included Florida State University, Penn State Berhend, Virginia Tech, and the University of Pennsylvania. The Recruiting We're always glad to meet and discuss our program with any incoming/potentially incoming Notre Dame students. If you are a current high school student considering Notre Dame and interested in playing collegiate water polo, download our recruiting questionnaire and send it to us. The tradition here in South Bend is second to none, and we're always looking for teammates who want to help us continue building it. |
