The Irish traveled to Wisconsin to face their first ranked opponent of the year. It was a clash between Notre Dame's high powered offense and Wisconsin's stellar defense. The only score of the game came when Freshman Irish Forward Monica Gerardo stripped the ball from a badger defender in the middle of the first half. She sent a blast that went into the lower right corner of the net beating the Badger goalkeeper.
"I knew that she'd score a lot for us this year," said veteran goalkeeper and co-captain Jen Renola. "She's the type of player who can find the goal and put the ball in the net. I'm sure she'll continue to produce for us." Coach Petrucelli commented that "Monica is a goal scorer. If you give her a chance she is going to score."
Monica was not the only Irish player to make the high light real for this game. Late in the first half the Badger's were given a free kick from 35 yards out. The badger player put the ball in play in the box and another badger gathered it in from ten yards out and sent a blast to Jen Renola's near side of the goal. Jen made a spectacular save by deflecting the ball out to the right. The save preserved both the Irish win and shutout. This marked Jen fourth shutout of the season.
