Amy VanLaecke is a Junior from Granger, Indiana. She attended John Adams H.S. She transferred to the University of Notre Dame after her freshman year at Arkansas. She is a versatile athlete. During her sophomore season at Notre Dame Amy moved from being a backup forward to starting defensive force after sweeper Ashley Sharp was injured. It was the first time in Amy's career that she played defense but 4 top 20 teams could not find a way to score in her first five starts. These teams included Duke and the North Carolina Tar Heels. Amy does not only provide the Irish with stellar defense but she also is a scoring threat from the back. She scored her first goal in an Irish uniform against Indiana on 9/23/94. Amy earned a spot on the MCC's All-Newcomer team.
As a freshman at Arkansas, Amy was the Razorbacks' top scorer with 36 points. The team defeated four top 20 opponents. She placed second in goals with 12 but set a school record with 12 assists. Amy's performance on the field earned her a spot on the All-Southeastern Confernce first team.
