Kate Sobrero is sophomore from Bloomfield, Michigan. She
played her high school soccer at Detroit Country Day H.S. She is
described as an energetic defender who draws the top marking
assignment every time out and plays the game with reckless
abandon. Look for Kate to make big plays again this season for
the Irish.
As a freshman she participated in workouts with
the U.S. National team and made the cut of 26 for the 20 member
team. She earned Soccer America All-Freshman Honors. She
also earned All-American Honors from Soccer News. She
scored the game winning goal against Portland in the National
semifinals when she headed in a Holy Manthei corner. She stepped
into the starting defense lineup and took on the top Irish
marking. She has blazing speed and a fearless demeanor. In the
Regional Final 2-1 win over William & Mary, she limited the
nation's leading scorer to just 2 shots on goal. After scoring
only once in the regular season Kate stepped it up in the MCC
tournament scoring 2 goals and 2 assists.
In high school Kate earned United States Youth
Soccer Association All-American Honors. She was a three time
all-area and all-state choice. She played on the under 20
national team that traveled to Jamaica. She scored 16 goals and
26 assists for the 1991 state champion Detroit Country Day H.S.
from her forward position. Her senior year she moved to sweeper
where scored 6 goals and seven assists.
