WIP Leadership

Professor Carolina Arroyo, Faculty Advisor
Professor Arroyo has served as the advisor for Women in Politics for the last 2 years. As Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies and Director of Internships, she also assists undergrads in finding internships that will allow them to apply the lessons they've learned in their political science coursework to real world application.

Amy Maslar, President
I’m a junior Political Science and Economics double major with a minor in the Hesburgh Program in Public Service. I am originally from the southwest side of Chicago, and I had the privilege of attending the largest all-girls school in the nation! Here at Notre Dame, I’m involved in College Mentors for Kids, and I serve as a leader for a Daisy Girl Scout troop in South Bend. I’ve been able to broaden my Notre Dame experience by interning with my congresswoman, Representative Judy Biggert. My passion for my coursework coupled with my commitment to serve my community has motivated me to further my studies in law school.  I love playing CatchPhrase, and I’m an avid viewer of the Food Network with a particular zeal for all things sweet and sugary.

Cristen O’Meara, Vice President
I am a junior Political Science and Economics Major. I live in Pangborn Hall but am originally from a Northwestern suburban of Chicago. This last summer was exciting. I both had the opportunity to intern for a Congressional Campaign and study abroad in Paris. I interned for Congressman Elect Robert Dold in the 10th district of Illinois, which CNN dubbed one of top 100 elections to watch. I am studying abroad again this pring in London, where I am interning for a member of Parliament.

Caitlin Girouard, Treasurer
I am a senior Political Science major, with minors in Peace Studies and the Hesburgh Program in Public Service. I was born and raised in Washington D.C., therefore politics has always been in my blood. I have interned for Senator Richard Lugar, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Congressman Joe Donnelly, Common Cause a grassroots-lobbying group, and I have volunteered for Donnelly for US Congress. Other than politics one of my favorite hobbies is traveling. Last fall I studied abroad in Rome, Italy. I have also been to Scotland, Ireland, England, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, France, Spain, Morocco, Monaco, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Greece, and Turkey. My goal is to visit Sub-Saharan Africa, and Asia. When I graduate, I hope to move back to Washington D.C. and find my place as a woman in politics!
