Welcome! Multiphysics Labs is directed by Dr. Vikas Tomar in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. Here we focus on two important problems related to multiphysics:

o      Understanding correlations among the thermal conduction,  microstructural stability, and mechanical strength properties of advanced ceramic matrix composites for extreme environments and of extreme conduction nanoscale materials at quantum, molecular, and mesoscopic length and time scales using both experiments and simulations

o      Understanding the biomechanics of organic biomimetic nanostructures using both experiments and simulations

The research methods are based on using cohesive finite element method, molecular dynamics method, Monte Carlo method, and quantum mechanical simulations and combining them with Scanning Probe Microscopy, Electron Microscopy, and nanoscale mechanical testing approaches for nanoscale fatigue and fracture strength measurements.
