Hello all welcome back to another year of doom. As you can see, we've already gotten off to a busy year.

Last weekend was our football concession stand and boy was that a blast! I can't remember a time where I smelled more like grilled brats and burgers. Thanks to everyone who came out! It was a huge success! Pictures are up on the link to your right.

Upcoming events:

This will be our first ever banh mi night! For those of you who don't know, banh mi is basically a Vietnamese submarine sandwhich made with french bread and filled with delicious meat and vegetables. Come try it out! Word on the street is that there will also be a movie showing...

That is all the news for the time being. So long for now!

Hey! Hope everyone had a good year because it's almost the end! It's been awhile since the last update so I'll recap what happened.

VIA-1 was amazing. Pictures are up from it in Photos. The trip was fantastic and turned out well. Northwestern was a blast and all those.... taxi rides. Look out for VIA-1 2010 in Wisconsin!

We also recently had our officer elections during Spring Roll night. Pictures are from it AND your lovely officers for 2009-2010 are:

President: Huong Ngo '10
VP: Anna Nguyen '10
Secretary: Anjelica Nguyen '11
Treasurer: Yong Xiang Zheng '11 (Fall) & Tim Kao '12 (Spring)
Historian: Quan Tran '12
PR: Kelly Yuen '12
Event Commissioner: Matt Moore '11

Also, this Sunday we are having our annual Volleyball Vietnam! Help raise funds that go to donations to VietHope, an organization which supports the education of disadvantaged Vietnamese children.

Enjoy the rest of the year! Good luck on finals!

Remember to come to Pho Night at 1:30 PM McGlinn Lounge!

[edited deadlines - Februrary 16, 2009]

On Friday, Februrary 27th, VSA will be holding a volunteering event. This event is where we will interact with children at the Robinson Center, putting smiles on their faces. This can range from jus talkign with them to playing cute games. This event will take place at 3:30 PM, and we will meet at the Main Circle at 3:00 PM. Please email us at vsand@nd.edu if you are interested in participating. Deadline to RSVP is Tuesday the 24th. Hope to see you there!

Friday, April 3rd through Sunday, April 5th is the VIA-1 Conference (Vietnamese Interacting as 1). This is an annual event (hosted at Notre Dame previously) that brings young Vietnamese leaders together to participate in workshops and make lasting friendships. Note: You do NOT have to be Vietnamese to attend. Though this is a Vietnamese conference, it is open to anyone because we are all ONE. This is a very great experience (ask anyone who went). You will learn more about the Vietnamese community, others, and yourself. It's an experience you won't forget.

VIA-1 Poster

The cost of this has been discounted to $20 a person. Please reserve your spot quickly as we have limited space and a deadline to submit our numbers to the conference. Once you have been confirmed, if you decide to back out, it will be an extra $10 to back out. Reasons for this is because of the costs of hotel, food, and transportation. Please only confirm if you are positive you are going. Please RSVP to vsand@nd.edu by Friday, March 6th (Friday before Spring Break). By this date, if you have NOT confirmed by then, you will not be able to go without paying full price ($75). Please reserve your spot as soon as possible.

Enjoy your Pho, and good luck on Mid-terms!

What a beautiful day! Well... before it started raining. Enjoy the weather while it lasts! By Sunday, the temperatures will drop back to a wind chill of 17°F (-8.3°C). Boo. =[

But... also this Sunday is the next Pho Night! This will be our third food night of the year. Here's a poster created by your Public Relations Officer, Jonnie. Click to view.

Have a bowl (or several) of pho before going to attend Bengal Bouts! Support your fellow boxers!

Merry belated Christmas and a Happy New Year! This is officially the first update of VSA ND of the New Year! We hope everyone's winter break has been wonderful and amazing, and with the new year comes better and more opportunities. In less than two weeks, we will all be arriving back on the campus grounds, ready (or not) for the new semester. Keep an eye out for upcoming new events coming your way.

Also, being a part of VSA gives you the benefit of celebrating two different New Years! The new year you just celebrated is part of the Gregorian calendar, but in a couple weeks (specifically January 26th), you will be celebrating Tet, based on the Lunar Calendar (which is actually a lunisolar calendar), and very similar (not quite exact) to the Chinese New Year. Wave good-bye to the year of the Rat and say hello to the Ox!

Enjoy the rest of your break!

Thank you for all who showed up to the Bun Bo Hue night! Photos (with a bonus video footage) from the event have been uploaded! Click Photos in the navigation pane to get there! We hope you enjoyed the new and unique dish and tell us what you think! If you have any ideas for future events/food nights, please email us at vsand@nd.edu.

VSA has no more upcoming events for this semester but look out for next semester! There are plans for volunteering being made for VSA. Keep an ear out for that. Also, if you are not on the listserv, you can email us at vsand@nd.edu and tell us you want to be on!

Classes are quickly coming to a close, and the dooming days of finals are approaching fast. But before you confine yourself to the your dorm, the library, LaFun, or anywhere to hide from the sunlight to study, why not take a break with AAA Holiday!

AAA Holiday features a gift exchange (White Elephant), food mostly in the form of baked goods, building gingerbread houses, and games. Everyone is welcome to come, but please RSVP as soon as possible by emailing cchan@nd.edu. If you plan to participate in the White Elephant game (gift exchange), you MUST bring a $10-15 value gift.

Good luck with finals and enjoy your winter break!

Happy Holidays!

Thanksgiving Break is almost here! Thanksgiving at Notre Dame equals AAA Dinner! Here is some info on the dinner:

After the break, we will be having another Food Night, but this time, it isn't the normal Pho or Spring Rolls that we traditionally have. This year, we are brining a new Vietnamese dish, originating from the city of Hue, Vietnam (Huong's family's origin). Here is some info on this:

Yumm!

All these events (and future ones) are listed in the event calendar (Events on the Navigation pane).

Have a good Thanksgiving break and good-luck during the last few weeks of school!

Also, how do you like the new VSA layout? =]
