Grace Longbons was elected to the Executive Committee of the Oak Ridge SNS and HFIR User Group (SHUG). SHUG works with the ORNL Neutron Sciences Directorate to address user concerns, provides a forum for keeping the entire community informed of issues and progress, and serves as an advocacy group for neutron scattering science.

Results of molecular dynamics simulations of driven metastable vortex lattices in superconductors with a combined six- and twelvefold anisotropic interactions were published in the New Journal of Physics. The MD simulations were performed by Dany Minogue and the work was done in collaboration with Drs. Cynthia and Charles Reichhardt at Los Alamos Natl. Lab.

Results of molecular dynamics simulations of driven vortices in superconductors with a two-fold anisotropy in the vortex-vortex interaction was published in the New Journal of Physics. The MD simulations were performed by Ted Roe and the work was done in collaboration with Drs. Cynthia and Charles Reichhardt at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Our studies of the effects of carbon and manganese doping on the two-gap superconducting state in MgB2 through studies of the vortex lattice were published in the Journal of Applied Crystallography. This work was carried out in collaboration with Soham Manni and the Canfield group at Iowa State University/Ames Laboratory.

Morten Eskildsen will give an invited talk on our SANS studies of skyrmions under the influence of radial currents at the 2022 American Conference on Neutron Scattering (ACNS2022) in Boulder (CO).

Our SANS studies how the VL in UPt3 undergoes a disordering due to neutron beam induced fission in the sample were published in Phys. Rev. B. The disordering is reversible and a well-ordered VL can be achieved by a vortex "shaking" process.

Further results of our SANS studies of UPt3 were published in Front. Electron. Mater. in special research topic on "New Heavy fermion Superconductors". Here we mapped the vortex lattice phase diagram in the B phase as a function of field and temperature, demonstrating the influence of the symmetry breaking field.

Our extensive SANS studies of the vortex lattice in Sr2RuO4, which included the use of neutron spin polarization and analysis, were published in Physical Review B 96, 174507 (2017). The field and temperature dependence of the VL anisotropy is consistent with Pauli limiting and multi band superconductivity in this material.

Our comprehensive SANS study of multiband superconductivity and Pauli paramagnetism in KFe2As2 was published in Physical Review B and featured as an Editors’ suggestion. In particular, we were able to separate orbital and paramagnetic contributions to the vortex lattice field modulation, providing a quantitative measure of the Pauli paramagnetic effects deep within the superconducting phase.

Our latest SANS studies of the heavy-fermion superconductor UPt3 were published in New Journal of Physics. A linear temperature dependence of the London penetration depth was observed, characteristic of the nodal structure of the order parameter. Our theoretical analysis is consistent with assignment of its symmetry to an odd parity state for which one of the three thermodynamic phases in non-zero magnetic field is chiral.

The observation of persistent metastable vortex lattice phases in MgB2 in the presence of substantial vortex motion was reported in Physical Review Letters. This indicate a novel kind of collective vortex behavior, and is proposed to be due to vortex lattice domain jamming.

Our latest results on the superconducting anisotropy in Sr2RuO4 were published in Physical Review Letters. We used a novel approach to small-angle neutron scattering from the vortex lattice that allowed us to perform measurements with magnetic fields close to the crystalline basal plane.

Our latest results, using polarized neutrons to measure the bulk magnetization in the superconducting state of UPt3, were published in Physical Review B. This work was done in collaboration with colleagues at Northwestern University and the University of Tennessee.
