Services offered by the Synthesis Core Facility

The facility includes both teaching and service components. The facility houses several instruments and provides professional staff services available to customers based upon a fee structure to recover costs. Synthesis core facility customers can be trained to use most of the instruments. Trained individuals will have unsupervised access to the instruments. The facility also provides assisted use of instruments.

Current services

1. LCMS services
2. Semi-preparative HPLC purification
3. Freeze drying
4. Microwave-assisted synthesis (available September 2011)

Proposed future services

5. Design and high throughput synthesis of compound arrays for SAR studies, using both solution- and solid-phase chemistries in parallel and combinatorially.
6. Chemical synthesis in gram quantities (e.g., biologically active materials for in vitro and in vivo assays and metabolic and stability studies, etc.)
7. Chemical synthesis of building blocks required in individual research projects (typically known compounds that are not commercially available or available at prohibitively high cost.
8. Development of synthetic routes for feasible access to analogs of biologically relevant proprietary compounds
9. Synthesis of assay tools and reagents such as fluorescently labeled and affinity labeled compounds (biotin-labeled compounds, compounds for immobilization to affinity chromatography, etc)
10. Assistance in developing marketable commodities to initiate their introduction to potential customers/investors (link to the Innovation Park).
11. Compound archiving: Bar-coded storage of synthetic compounds provided by individual research groups and maintenance of compound databases.
12. Managing compound screening: collecting, analyzing and formatting compounds from individual research groups for a broad array of biological tests at screening facilities such as the Molecular Libraries Screening Centers Network (MLSCN), including maintaining databases of screening results.

The core facility does not provide

1. Routine synthesis of peptides
2. Routine synthesis of oligonucleotides
