Research and Training Links: Occupational Health Program

The Occupational Health Program has changed in 2006. The OHP waiver of yesteryear is now obsolete, and all must fill out required information, depending on the level of direct handling of vertebrate animals.

You fall into Category A if:
- You are a student enrolled in the UNDERC-East or UNDERC-West summer courses
- You are a teaching assistant for either of the summer courses
- You are a researcher who handles any whole, live mammal, bird, or reptile OR any vertebrate that can be considered a biohazard

You fall into Category B if:
- You handle ONLY aquatic animals, which are considered to be fish or amphibians that are NOT considered biohazards
- You observe but do not handle any other live, whole vertebrate
- You work with tissue samples (not whole animals) that are not biohazards

*UNDERC summer students: Under "Part A: Occupational/Environmental Risk Factors," we have created a "template" of sorts that you may follow when filling out this section. Click here to download it. If your independent project involves increased involvement with reptiles, birds, or mammals, you can increase the "Frequency of Exposure" to a level that you feel is accurate. Or, if your project involves other lab-related issues, you may list them, as well. Please contact us at underc@nd.edu if you have questions along the way.
