Apartments - Contact the Assistant Director for availability. UNDERC has seven apartments available, three are one bedroom (up to 4 beds per apartment), and four are two bedroom (up to 8 beds per apartment). Each apartment has a full kitchen (including all the necessary cooking and dining equipment), a full bath, and a common living room. Occupants are responsible for cleaning and cooking for themselves. Under normal housing loads you can expect to have several roommates, privacy in housing is non-existant. Each occupant must bring bedding (blanket, mattress cover (twin bed size), and pillow cover) and all cleaning and toiletry sundries (toilet paper). Weekly trips to the grocery store mayl be necessary due to limited refrigerator space. It is important to get your housing request in early each year to avoid potential housing conflicts. Husband and wife teams are not guaranteed the same living quarters, but housing is more readily available after the conclusion of the undergraduate summer course (mid-May through late July).
Clarification - The housing fees are calculated on a weekly basis. That means if you stay 7 days the fee per person is $90.00, but if you stay 8 days the fee would be $105.00.
This facility has three small labs, six large labs, a small 'darkroom' lab, an equipment room with a scintillation counter, a conference room, a seminar room, a computer room, and a library. The small labs are about 10 x 15 feet with two sinks, a hood, and countertop space along one and one-half walls. The large labs are about 15 x 20 feet and have a hood, two sinks, and countertop space along three walls. Each lab has vacuum and compressed air capability as well. The seminar room comes equiped with three projections systems: a transparency overhead, a computer based LCD projector, and a 35 mm projector. The computer room has several general use PC/Windows-based computers with internet access (via satellite). Each lab has one ethernet network connection. Researchers are encouraged to bring their own computer and ethernet network board. The network connection allows access to the internet and printing.
This facility has been renovated but does not have all the amenities of the Hank Research lab. There are three labs, each with one sink, a hood, countertop space, but not much else. There is no air or vacuum supply or climate control. The wet lab has an aquarium room with space for 36 ten gallon aquariums and has a forced air supply suitable for bubbling air. Please supply your own tanks, air stones, and tygon tubing. The wet lab has a large open room on the first floor with the forced air supply as well as ground and epilimnetic (not installed yet) water supplies. The water supply can be set up as a flow through system if required.
If you will be using vertebrates in your research you will be required to submit the necessary IACUC request to the University. The lab has five offices on the second floor available at no cost, as long as you are willing to share space with other researchers. There are ethernet ports throughout the building for internet access.
You should make every effort to contact us 6 - 9 months before the field season begins in May. Official notices of our commitment to lab and housing space requests are sent out in April of each year. Please correspond with the Director in the initial stages to obtain approval for your project. After that the Assistant Director can help you with the details of housing and lab questions and reservations. Unfortunately, it is not possible to post exact availablilty and assignment information for the labs and housing here.
