Notre Dame Commander's Cup, training
Cadets and Midshipmen...
The primary mission of the Army, Navy, and Air Force ROTC units at the University of Notre Dame is to develop Cadets and Midshipmen morally, mentally, and physically to prepare them to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship, and government. The Commander's Cup Competition has been a tradition at Notre Dame for many years to allow the Cadets and Midshipmen to demonstrate their physical prowess and development as future officers, encourage camaraderie within individual units, and foster esprit de corps with Cadets and Midshipmen of other branches through friendly athletic competition.
Today, the competition
takes into account the role that moral and mental development takes in the
complete education of young officers by giving equal weight to volunteer
service opportunities offered to all branches and academic achievement as well
as athletic competition. This change will better reflect the training received
and the character imbued in the men and women of
