Domer Dictionary

Acoustic Cafe - a place for students to display their musical talents every Thursday night in LaFortune
AnTostal - Irish for "the festival," this tradition celebrates the last week of the Spring semester before you must start studying for finals. There are free T-shirts, games, food, and fun events for everyone.
AR - Assistant Rector, two graduate students that help out the Rector. (Rachel lives on the 3rd floor, and Jean Anne lives on the 4th floor.) They are second below the Rector in authority. Try to get to know them; they are awesome.
Baraka Bouts - female student boxing night held annually in November.
Bengal Bouts - male student boxing tournament held every year beginning in late February. Boxers sell tickets as a fundraiser for the Holy Cross Missions in Bangladesh.
Bookstore Basketball - largest 5-on-5 basketball tournament in the world with over 500 teams competing. Sometimes the team names are more exciting than the actual games.
COBA - College of Business Administration. See also, MCOB
CoMo - Coleman Morse Center. This building houses the First Year of Studies, Campus Ministry, and a study lounge with free popcorn and bottomless cups of soda for 25¢. FYS advisers are located on the second floor. If you need tutoring or sign up for collaborative learning, these can be found on the second floor too.
CSC - Center for Social Concerns. This is a the place to be when you want service projects.
D2 - student parking lot behind Knott Hall and PE
D2000 - student name for parking lot across from Stepan Field; so named because it's quite a hike from most dorms.
D6 - student parking lot behind the Rock
DART- Direct Access Registration Terminal, but you don't need to know the full name, because no one else does. This is the system used by students to register for classes. Example, "When is your DART time?"
DeBartolo - classroom building where the majority of classes are held. Don't be surprised if you have an entire semester in only DeBart. It's happened to me.
Dog Book - The Freshman Registrar Book that you sent your picture and bio in for. Great way to find your roommate a date for the SYR!
Domer - any ND student, past or present
Domer Dollars - An account that you, parents, grandparents, and other relatives can put money for you to use on campus. Once your flex points are gone, they start using this account. You also get a discount on the laundry machines if you use domer dollars rather than quarters. More Info on Domer Dollars here.

Fall Break - a whole week off in the middle of October.
Fieldhouse Mall - open area between Cavanaugh and Stonehenge, often the site of demonstrations, bands, and other fun events.
First Year of Studies - Every freshman student is placed in FYS. The earliest a student can declare a major is at the end of their freshman year. Freshman are also assigned a FYS adviser the first year located on the second floor of CoMo. Sophomores with a declared major will be assigned an adviser in their college of study. FYS's Website
Flex Points - alternative meal points, which can be used same-as-cash at many campus eateries.
God Quad - The quad with the Administration Building (Golden Dome) to the North; the Basilica, Sorin, and Walsh to the West; Washington Hall, LaFortune, Crowley, Hayes-Healy, and Hurly to the East; and South Quad to the South. Sacred Heart of Jesus and Sorin statues are both located on God Quad.There are lots of trees and friendly squirrels!
The Grotto - Behind the Basilica is a replica of the Grotto at Lourdes. Come here for peace, quiet, reflection, and prayer.
University Health Services - Located in St. Liam's which is behind the Administration Building, next to Standford and Lewis. University Health Service's Website
Hesburgh Library - 13 story library named after Father Theodore Hesburgh. The front has a mosaic better known as "Touch Down Jesus" and faces the stadium. The first floor has circulation, reference, periodicals, information desk, reserve book room, and study space. The basement has ton of tables and booths for studying. There are also rooms for group study and can be reserved. The second floor has more study space and the Audio Center. The other floors have cubicles for quiet private study space. The Hesburgh Library is scheduled for the first floor to be renovated in Spring 2010. (Colleges have their own library in other buildings.) ND Library System's Website
Huddle Mart - Convenience store located on the first floor of LaFortune.
JACC or The Joyce Center - Joyce Athletic Convocation Center. Where the pep rallies, Basketball games, hockey games, volleyball games, DomerFest, Fencing Arena, and Freshman Orientation Program are held in this building.
LaFun - LaFortune, the student center with Burger King, Subway, Starbucks, Sbarro, and more. Guard your flex points in here, or you'll be out of luck come finals! More Info about LaFun Services here
Library Circle - A pick up and drop off location on the east side of the Hesburgh Library. This is where you catch the bus to go to the mall.
Main Circle - Another pick up and drop off spot on Notre Dame Avenue. In between Alumni and the Law school.
MCOB - Mendoza College of Business
Mod Quad - Area of campus that includes the dorms PW, PE, Knott, and Siegfried.
NDH or North - North Dining Hall. Has multiple rooms of food. Specialties- Crepe Bar, Fajiatas Bar, and Side Rooms for quieter dinning. Food Services' Website
North Quad - Area enclosed by Haggar Hall to the North; Stanford, Keenan, Zahm, and Cavanaugh to the West; NDH, Farley, and BP to the East; and Stonehedge to the South.
Notre Dame Federal Credit Union - The Bank on campus. It has a location in the basement of LaFortune as well as one on Douglas Road.
OIT - Office of Information and Technology. Take your computer to these guys when it breaks or if you just have a question about printing. OIT's Website
O'Shag - O'Shaughnessy, the Arts and Letters building
Parietals - "visiting hours" that govern when you are allowed to be in a dorm of the opposite sex. You are allowed in every day at 9 am and kicked out at 12 am Sunday - Thursday and 2 am Friday and Saturday.
Quater Dogs - Hot dogs for 25¢ at the Huddle Mart after Midnight.
RA - Resident Assistant, a senior who is the authority figure in your hallway. (1,2,& 3 floor have 2 RA's, and the 4th floor just has 1). Ask them any question you have whether it is "where is my class?" or "I broke my ladder, what should I do?" They also will conduct section meetings every Tuesday night in the hall outside their room. Try to get to know your RA and any others.
Rector - (Sometimes Rectoress) Holds highest authority in the dorm. She makes all major decisions within the dorm. Get to know AMY! She is really kind and amazing!
ResLife - When you get into a bit too much trouble you get to visit the people at Resident Life and Housing. Not a fun experience, try to avoid.
The Rock - Sports complex located on the west side of South Quad.
Rolfs - Sports complex located next to Jordan Hall of Science and the JACC.
SAO - Student Activities Office, holds activities for student to do during the school year. They put on "The Show" and other more "school sponsored" events compared to the SUB.
SDH or South - South Dining Hall. Has one room of food and two side rooms for dining. Usually refered to as the Harry Potter Dining Hall. Specialties- Fresh sliced fruit, Fresh Baked Cookies, and more variation in creating meals. Food Services' Website
SMC - Saint Mary's College is an all-female liberal arts college located west of Campus.
South Quad - enclosed by The Rock on the West and O'Shag on the East. Home to Alumni, Dillion, Fischer, Pangborn, Lyons, Morrisey, Howard, and Badin dorms as well as CoMo, Knights of Columbus Building, Hurly, Riely, Cushing, and the Law Building.
Stepan Center - White Dome on the farthest North East corner of Campus. If you are in large classes (Engineering), you will most likely have tests and/or finals in there.
Stonehenge - the large fountain just outside Cavanaugh, so named for its resemblence to the real Stonehenge. Actually, it's a war memorial to all Domers killed in major wars.
SUB - Student Union Board, along with SAO, they put on a lot of activities during the school year. SUB has a movie every weekend that plays in Debartolo for $3. (Dark Knight, Twilight, The Reader)
SYR - "Screw Your Roommate," the nickname for the dances held periodically by each hall. The name comes from the freshman tradtition of choosing your roommate's date.
