CONTEMPORARY CULTURE'S CONFLICTING VISUAL MESSAGES TO GIRLS
Wednesdays, February 26 & March 5

The seminar will investigate girls' daily relationships with their bodies and the ways the female body has become a template for the conflicting messages to girls within contemporary culture. Along with selected readings, we will use the exhibition of large-scale color photographs presently at the Snite Museum of Art titled "Girl Culture," by noted contemporary photographer Lauren Greenfield, to focus on girls' inner lives and emotional development in relation to the material world and popular culture. (Exhibition at the Snite Museum January 19 through March 9, 2003).
