       WELCOME

Annually, accounting students from the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College assist low-income and disabled taxpayers with preparation of their tax returns through Notre Dame's Vivian Harrington Gray Tax Assistance Program (TAP).

The Tax Assistance Program has helped many taxpayers and provided opportunities for students to hone their skills, lend their service and develop a deeper understanding for the lives of their clients.

Founded in 1972 by Professor Ken Milani and a handful of students, TAP has grown into a wide reaching program. In 2009, the TAP program involved more than 90 student volunteers as well as several faculty members and local CPA accountants who staffed 9 area service centers. Volunteers also formed “SWAT” teams to serve disabled taxpayers in their homes and hospital rooms. In 2009, the TAP personnel filed more than 3,800 income tax returns. Over 20 Notre Dame alumni clubs have adopted the TAP service program to help their neighbors in cities throughout the nation.

There is no charge for the service, which is supported by funds from Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business, the Vivian Harrington Gray endowment, and tax forms provided by the Internal Revenue Service and the Indiana Department of Revenue. During the tax season information about domestic tax services may be obtained by calling 574-631-7863.
