To be completely honest, this page is mostly an opportunity for me to gather all my information in one place where I can find it easily. But perhaps you'll find it of interest, too. (If you've got a link you think I should add, e-mail the information to me. I may not add it, but then again, maybe I will.)

Yarn Resources

I've separated the yarn into two lists: first are the major brand names which you're most likely to find at a chain craft store (JoAnn's, Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Wal*Mart, etc., etc.), followed by a list of smaller and often more interesting options.

Major Brands

Smaller (but often more interesting) Companies

You can also purchase yarn (and hooks and patterns and lots of other stuff) from various catalogs (paper or on-line) such as:

  • Cotton Cloudswww.cottonclouds.com — "[A]n on-line catalog supplying you with quality yarns at affordable prices".

  • Herrschners — www.herrschners.com — This is a good site to know for all your craft needs.

  • Patternworks — www.patternworks.com — I love this catalog. It's mostly geared towards the knitter, but there's just a beautiful selection of yarns, including many of those in the second list above — and they do sell hooks and some other crochet options.

  • WEBS America's Yarn Store — www.yarn.com — A huge variety of yarns and other fiber resources (looms, spinning wheels, books, etc.).

And of course the ultimate resource for finding new and interesting sources for yarn:

Hooks & Needles & Such
  • Addi — www.skacelknitting.com
  • Brittany Crochet Hooks & Knitting Needles — www.brittanyneedles.com
  • Clover — www.clover-usa.com — A variety of crafting tools, including several types of crochet hooks (includes Takumi bamboo hooks) and thread- and yarn-cutters which are okay with most airline security (the cutting blade is safely enclosed within the item).

Crochet Magazines

  • Crochet!

  • Crochet Fantasy

  • Crochet with Heart — This bi-monthly magazine used to be published by Leisure Arts (see below), but it seems to have disappeared.

  • Crochet World

  • Decorative Crochet and Magic Crochet — Sister publications by Editions De Saxe, a French publishing house. (I haven't seen either in the magazine racks lately.)

  • Simply Creative Crochet — A Better Homes and Gardens special interest publication, new in the fall of 2003.

Crochet Books

  • Leisure Arts — As with many of these resources, they offer more than just crochet.
Beads & Beaded Crochet Resources
Miscellaneous Other Resources
  • Crochet Guild of America — www.crochet.org

  • Simply Sarah's Yarn Bags — www.simplysarahs.com — I don't have one yet, but these totes look really handy. There are outer pockets, with grommets in the flaps into a central area. The yarn goes through the grommets and this keeps it from getting tangled as you work. They come in three sizes, small medium and large.
