The following are links to some sites which you may find helpful in making art.

Please note that these are mostly sites which I have wandered across in my own surfing and relate purely to my own interests. I make no claims to providing the ultimate list of materials sites.  :^)  Nor am I financially or otherwise tied to any of the below companies. Well, other than that I personally buy from some of them occasionally.

Fine Art Painting Supplies

Stencils & Stenciling Supplies

I must admit that when it comes to stencils, my tastes run to those which can be done in a single pass with well-designed bridges incorporated into the design, as opposed to those which are built up with several overlays, creating a more seamless image. That's what stencils look like to me, and that's mostly (though not exclusively) what you'll find at the sites listed below.

If you don't find what you're looking for at any of these sites, two good places to continue looking are the Yahoo! list of stencil links and the links page at Mill Creek Stenciling, a professional stenciling services site.

Helen Foster Stencilshttp://www.bungalowborders.com/

These stencils are available online from several sites, in addition to the above official site. Other sites that offer her stencils include: http://www.fairoak.com/, http://www.fitzdecarts.com/helen.htm and http://www.willowglen.com/.

Goddess Creative Designshttp://www.goddessdesigns.com/

In addition to a nice range of stencils (including celtic, fairies and mosaics), this site supplies stamps, paints, brushes and sprays.

Gail Grisi Stenciling Inc.http://www.gailgrisistenciling.com/

Perhaps a little more flowery than suits my personal tastes, but these are very well done stencils. The stencils appear to all be of the overlay variety. In addition to the stencils and stencil paints, this store based in New Jersey also sells an exquisite variety of lace. There is an online discussion forum for stenciling topics as well.

L.A. Stencilworkshttp://www.lastencil.com/

"Artistic Stencils from the Four Corners of the World." This company was created by two southern California decorative artists in the early 1990s, and provides a wide range of styles. Their stencils are laser cut from 5 mil mylar, and most (all?) consist of multiple overlays.

Stencil Kingdomhttp://www.stencilkingdom.com/

A U.K. company based in Warwickshire near Stratford upon Avon. They have a wonderful variety, including some very fun fairy stencils by Brian Froud and others.

The Stencil Libraryhttp://www.stencil-library.com/

A company based in Stocksfield, Northumberland (another U.K. source), they provide "[s]tencils from the world's largest mail-order collection" according to their Web site. In addition to stencils they also sell paints and books.

Stensource International, Inc.http://www.stensource.com/

A California based company, they claim to be one of the largest stencil manufacturers in the U.S. With over 1600 different designs in their online catalog, they've something for almost anyone. These are almost exclusively my kind of stencils – if you're looking for multi-layer stencils where the bridges don't show, look elsewhere!

Tempting Stencilshttp://www.temptingstencils.com/

Another U.K. based stencil supplier (this time in Leamington), these folks have an amazing array of stencils available. There seems to be a fair number of both single layer and multiple layer stencils offered. In addition to the stencils shown in their online catalog, they offer special orders – resizing, special designs, etc.

Trimbelle River Studio & Designhttp://www.trimbelleriver.com/

"Arts & Crafts Vintage Stencils and Supplies" – pretty much says it all, eh? In addtion to Art & Crafts style stencils, Trimbelle River also sells paintsticks and other supplies.

Wright Stencil Designshttp://www.wrightcatalog.org/

Six designs by Frank Lloyd Wright are available as stencils from this site (the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust), as well as a variety of other Wright desgin inspired items.
