Welcome to the home page for the Office of International Studies'
Summer Language Grants Program.

The Office of International Studies, the College of Arts and Letters , the Nanovic Institute for European Studies and the Mendoza College of Business are co-sponsoring a competition for undergraduates who wish to continue their foreign language study during the summer. This program serves three main goals:

NEW THIS YEAR: Students majoring or minoring in a College of Arts & Letters Program should apply through the Center For The Study of Language and Culture at: http://cslc.nd.edu/grants

(329 DeBartolo, Ph. 631-5881)

GOALS:

1) To support students studying languages which are not widely taught on campus (MCOB, ENGR, SCI).
2) To encourage students from colleges that do not require a language to continue their language studies (ENGR and MCOB).

TERMS OF ELIGIBILITY:

The competition is open to any student from Engineering and Business who wish to study any language.

For the students in the College of Science we encourage any student to apply for advanced language study (beyond the college language requirement).

It is expected, in most cases, that language classes taken elsewhere will be counted for academic credit at Notre Dame.

OF SPECIAL NOTE:

These grants are designed to help defray costs only. Students should not expect this grant to cover more than a small fraction of their total costs and are encouraged to take an active role in seeking other sources of funding. Note: Students awarded a Nanovic grant are not eligible for a language grant.
