There are a number of ways to get involved:
1) Get involved in your dorm.
Each dorm has a president, vice president, senator, and numerous commissioners that help orchestrate events. Going to Hall Council in the dorms each week is a great way to learn what is going on on campus. The elections for all these dorm positions occur in late February and early March each year.
2) Apply for Senate Chair and other Special Interest Positions
These positions are opportunities to work directly under the Student Body President and Vice President.
The application process occurs in late February/early March.
3) Apply for Class Council
Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are encouraged to apply for class council each Spring for the following year. Class councils are in charge of planning events for the class, including barbeques, rosaries, guest speakers, etc. They are also in charge of designing class apparel. These applications are available in the middle of March.
4) Join a Senate committee
Student Senate is broken into ten different subcommittees. Each committee is made up of a few Senators, as well as other students who have expressed sincere interests in the topics. Applications are available throughout the year, but students are encouraged to apply in April when the new Senate Committee Chairs begin their terms.
5) If you're a FRESHMAN...
Run for class council representative for your dorm. These representatives become the members of Freshmen Class Council. This elections happen in the first few weeks in September.
OR
Apply for FUEL (First Undergraduate Experience in Leadership). FUEL is a freshmen only organization which provides opportunities to participate in specific projects and to learn about all the different areas of Student Government. FUEL members become part of one of the 11 Senate committees and work directly with upperclassmen to accomplish the Student Senate's policy goals. FUEL applications are due in September each fall. For more information email the directors at rbevingt@nd.edu or stop by the office (203 LaFortune) to talk to a team member!
NOTE: The official turnover for almost all positions is APRIL 1st of each year.
