Inside Student Government
Welcome to the Student Government of the University of Notre Dame! Student Government is an intricate balance of both programming and policymaking bodies. As the policy branch, we are interested in serving the student body with any policy issues that may arise. From academic affairs to increasing diversity on campus, Student Government is committed to being a voice of the students to the administration and greater South Bend community. We vow to improve campus life through a variety of avenues, protect student interests, and support student groups so that the University may continue to hold students first. We invite you to peruse the website and to stop by the second floor of LaFortune Student Center to voice your opinions, for it is only through our combined efforts that we may succeed.
Organizations
- Student Senate
Comprised of representatives from every residence hall, the Student Senate of Notre Dame discusses many important issues that pertain to the student body as a whole. Through the passage of resolutions and constitutional amendments, the Senate provides a voice to students through their dorm representatives in important University matters. Each senator serves on two of the eight committees that stem from the Senate that include those listed below.
- Council of Representatives (COR)
The Council of Representatives serves as an advisory board to the student body president. Through weekly meetings, the president introduces agenda topics that aid in his or her decision making needs. Officially, as stated in the Constitution, "The Council of Representatives shall be the venue for leaders of the various student organizations to meet and advise the Student Body President on all matters concerning the Student Union as a whole. It shall serve as an advising body to the Student Body President as well as approve the nominations for appointed offices, approve the Student Union budget, deliberate and approve any changes to the Student Union budget at any time throughout the year, and serve as a forum for discussion and decision making regarding the uses of the Collaboration Fund."
- Executive Programming Board
As the board through which the student union collaborates and updates each other on programming, the Executive Programming Board is an integral part of the programming branch of student government. Chaired by the chief executive assistant, "the primary goal of this group will be to prevent overlap in programming and to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of each of the aforementioned groups’ events in an effort to draw more students to each group’s events. This shall be done by setting and updating a calendar with all planned and proposed events for each group. The Executive Programming Board shall meet every other week and shall discuss events that each organization is programming or plans to program." (as set forth by the constitution)
