There are several impressive sites in the Negev which demonstrate the sophistication of water conservation techniques and the extension of trade networks throughout the region.  The two major sites visited were Mamshit and Avdat, both of which preserve significant remnants of their Byzantine occupations.A quick stop at Mitzpe Rimon for lunch also provided an overview of the "Grand Canyon of the Negev."  Click on highlighted images below for enlarged versions of select pictures.
