PAYMENT INFORMATION
When is my payment due? Payment of fall semester charges is due on or before August 15, 2007, and payment of spring semester charges is due on or before January 2, 2008. All accounts must be settled before the due date, or enrollment may be denied. Monthly personal charges (e.g. bookstore, health center, etc.) are due upon receipt of the monthly statement.
Where do I send payment for a Student Account? Payments may be made by using the remittance envelope provided with the Student Accounts Statement or by mailing the payment to University of Notre Dame, P.O. Box 11116, South Bend, IN 46634-0116. Please include the payment slip from the statement or the student’s full name and ndID number, which is located on the student ID card and the Student Accounts Statement. Payments may also be made in person at the Notre Dame Federal Credit Union in the LaFortune Student Center on campus.
What methods of payment are accepted? Methods of payment of the Student Account are personal check, cashier’s check, money order, or wire transfer. Cash payments can also be made at the Notre Dame Federal Credit Union in the LaFortune Student Center. Instructions for a wire transfer may be obtained by calling (574) 631-7113.
Can I pay with a credit card? No, credit cards are not accepted.
To whom should I make the check payable? All payments for the Student Account should be made payable to “University of Notre Dame.”
How can I obtain a receipt of my payments? The official receipt for a payment is the next month’s Student Accounts statement, which will reflect the payment. If a record of the payment is needed before the next month’s statement is printed or for prior semesters’ payments, students may obtain a complete print-out of their Student Account through insideND at http://inside.nd.edu.
Can I pay my account with earnings from my campus job? Yes, students may sign up in the Office of Student Accounts to have a deduction from their payroll earnings applied to the balance of their account. These payroll deductions can be used to spread payments out over the academic year, serving as a helpful tool in budgeting and paying for housing and insurance costs. This arrangement needs to be set up annually or by semester and should be completed by the first week of the semester. It is available only if the deduction will take the balance to zero at the end of the academic year.
BILLING QUESTIONS
When will I receive a bill? The fall semester Student Accounts Statement is issued in mid-July; the spring statement is issued in early December. These statements list basic semester charges for tuition, fees, and room and board. Additional statements for personal charges, including bookstore, health services, laundry, and other miscellaneous charges, are issued on a monthly basis.
Where will my billing statement be mailed? Undergraduate statements are mailed to the financially responsible party, usually the parent, at the party’s permanent home address, per the original request on the parent card in the Admissions packet. Graduate, law, and M.B.A. statements are mailed to the student at the campus or local address from August through April. In May, June, and July, if there is no campus or local address, statements will be mailed to the permanent home address. All students should report their home and off-campus local address changes to the Office of the Registrar.
How can I change my billing address? Students who desire their statements to be mailed to a different address must make a request in writing or in person at the Office of Student Accounts. All students should report their home and off-campus local address changes to the Office of the Registrar.
What are the “Memo Items” and “Authorized Financial Aid” on my statement? Memo Items and Authorized Financial Aid are items that are part of a student’s financial aid award, but the actual funds have not yet been posted to the student’s account. These items are displayed on the first two statements of each semester (July, August, December, and January) to assist in determining the actual balance due. It is assumed that all appropriate financial aid procedures have been followed, and students may check the status of their financial aid by using InsideND. Items that appear as Memo or Authorized Financial Aid will appear on a future statement and on the Student Account information in InsideND as a payment when the funds are received.
Why does my Federal Work-Study or Campus Employment appear on my Financial Aid Award, but not on the statement or my Student Account Online? The Federal Work-Study or Campus Employment in the Financial Aid Award represents employment eligibility. Undergraduate students are paid biweekly via direct deposit to their personal checking accounts for the number of hours worked. Because the student is paid directly, these funds do not appear as a credit on the Student Account.
REFUND CHECKS
How do I request a refund check? A student or parent of an undergraduate student may request a refund check by sending an email to stdacct@nd.edu, calling (574) 631-7113, or coming to the Office of Student Accounts. Please provide the student’s name and ndID number (located on the Student ID card and the Student Accounts Statement). Be sure to indicate if the refund check should be for the full amount of the credit balance in the Student Account or a lesser amount. Undergraduate students: please note that if there is a parent PLUS loan or TuitionPay plan, verbal or written permission from the parent is required for the refund.
When will my refund check be ready? If a valid credit balance exists in the Student Account, a refund check will normally be ready within two working days of the request. However, based on the volume of request for refunds during the first week of classes each semester, it may take up to one week. Please note that for refunds of loan proceeds or other Financial Aid for a given semester, the refund check cannot be issued until the funds are received and posted to the Student Account, the student has web enrolled, and classes have begun for that semester.
When my refund check is ready, how can I receive it? A student can pick up a refund check in the Student Accounts office with his/her student ID or other valid photo-ID, such as a driver’s license. If the student has an account at the Notre Dame Federal Credit Union and supplies his/her credit union account number or member number when making the refund request, the refund check can be deposited at the credit union on campus by the Office of Student Accounts. The refund check can also be mailed to an off-campus address or home address.
MISCELLANEOUS
What is the Health Service charge on my account/statement for? The Office of Student Accounts is supplied with the amount of the Health Service charge, but, for privacy reasons, the office is not informed of the specific service. The University Health Center supplies students with an itemized statement of the service and the cost that will be charged to the student account, which may be submitted to their insurance provider for reimbursement. If the student needs more information about a particular Health Service fee, he/she may contact the University Health Center in person or by phone at (574) 631-7497.
Why am I being charged for Health Insurance? All graduate students and international undergraduate students are required to have Health Insurance and will be charged the fee unless they show proof of comparable insurance. If a student has private Health Insurance and does not wish to participate in the University sponsored insurance plan, he/she must fill out a waiver form and show proof of insurance to the University Health Center. For additional information, including the deadline to submit a waiver form and provide proof of other insurance, please visit: http://www.nd.edu/~uhs/html/insure_bill.html.
Do I contact Student Accounts to add to my Domer Dollars? No, the Card Services Office must be contacted directly to add Domer Dollars. For more information, please visit: http://food.nd.edu/on_campus_students/services/domerdollars.html.
Can I charge books to my Student Account? Yes, the campus bookstore allows students to charge purchases directly to their student account by using their student ID cards. Bookstore charges will appear on a monthly Student Accounts Statement, with payment due upon receipt. Other payment options at the bookstore include cash, checks, credit cards, and Domer Dollars.
When I look at my student account online, why can I see my tuition charges and other fees, but not my scholarships or loans? The Student Account information that the students can view in InsideND displays the most up to date account information. Items such as loans and outside scholarships, however, will not appear on the Student Account until the University has received these funds. The student may review his/her Financial Aid Award information to identify the additional credits that will be applied to the account and determine the actual balance due.
