Question: For the "Layout of Mechanical Components" deliverable due next week, does the ABC team need to have all of our components laid out for you? Or, can we have all the components necessary to make only one of each of the different types of robots we are building? Also, by building only one of the entire set, it gives us a chance to correct for any possible errors before going on to make the others. Answer: On Tuesday have all the parts sitting next to their CAD drawing on your worktable. So, if you are building 10 spearing mechanisms and there is a common part to all 10 of them, then there should be 10 of that part next to the one CAD drawing of it. Game Day is April 18, and today is March 17. If the parts are not all fabricated by next Tuesday (March 24) I do not see how your Squad will be ready to play three weeks later. There is a lot of programming and electronics that goes into these, after they are built. There is also practicing and tuning. I would assume that by now you have 20-30% of the parts fabricated. If not your Team definitely behind. The engineering of this product was done when you turned in your Design Proposal. Since then (and even before then) your Team should have been fabricating. In your email you suggest that by building just one and not all of them your Team could debug and correct any possible errors. That is not how it works, either here, or at GE. Engineers design it correctly the first time.
