Horn Lesson Grading Policy

To earn a grade of “A” for applied lessons, each student must complete the following requirements:
- 12 satisfactorily prepared lessons
- 1 written assignment

- A specific topic will be given to you at your first lesson.
- Papers are due on or before March 21, 2005.
- 1 studio recital performance
- Juries (required only for music majors)
Deficiencies in any of these areas will result in a lower grade.
Please bring the following materials to every lesson:
- All necessary equipment (instrument, mouthpiece, etc.)
- Pencil
- Russell, Scales and Exercises for Horn
- Pottag, Preparatory Melodies for the French Horn
- Kopprasch, Sixty Selected Studies (Volume 1 or 2, as assigned)
- Maxime-Alphonse, 200 Studies (Book 1 - 6, as assigned)
- Solo & Chamber Music
- Ensemble music (band and/or orchestra), as needed
- Other materials, as assigned
Music majors are required to purchase David Thompson’s The Orchestral Audition Repertoire for Horn: Comprehensive and Unabridged (approx. $90 from www.thompsonedition.com).
To cancel or reschedule a lesson, please provide as much notice as possible. Lessons cancelled with less than 48 hours notice are made up only at the instructor’s discretion and convenience. Missed lessons will severely affect the applied lessons grade.
