The Plan

The Barn Owls hope to accomplish three things by the end of the AME 441 Senior Design course: They want to build an aircraft which will take off multiple times without crashing; they want to accurately predict the performance of the designed aircraft, and they want to maximize the speed and rate of climb. Like many of the other groups, they are concerned with simple construction, a vehicle that is easy to manufacture. They are planning to add winglets to enhance in-flight performance and a slight dihedral for roll stability.

Team 4 has a plan to take off in less than 300 ft. on grass, but they did seem a little bit bummed that they couldn't use rockets. According to their projections, the Barn Owl will weigh just 6 lbs., one of the lightest vehicles in the class. So who needs rockets?
