The Plan

At a projected 8.36 lbs, the G2-D2 is the heaviest vehicle in the AME 441 course. Team members believe, however, that the flying wing they have designed, based on the NACA 6412 air foil, will maximize the rate of climb and help level cruising speeds. The low Reynolds number foil is also large enough to house all the internal electronics required in the design parameters. They have also incorporated a ducted fan to increase propeller efficiency and winglets to reduce drag. Although other teams have proposed landing skids, the G2-D2 will use tricycle landing wheels to prevent damage to the craft during landing. Initial plans also place the modem and GPS 24" apart, to limit interference.

Team 2 has designed one of the most unique looking of the vehicles in the course, but it is also one of the heaviest. For team members putting their plan on paper was one thing, building it ... well, that's something else.
