Children's "Sculpture to Go" Guide Available
Curator of Education, Public Programs, Jackie Welsh announces a new tool for families with young children who are interested in exploring sculpture. The guide is called Sculpture to Go, which Welsh wrote in collaboration with Greg Anderson, second-year graduate student in the Department of Graphic Design.
This interactive guide for a walk through the Museum looks at seven sculptures by American artists. Beginning and ending withthe large abstract sculpture outside the entrance, Griffon, the sculptures were selected because they move–or look as though they might move, which is more intriguing to children
The guide is packed inside a “to go” box filled with examples of objects related to the sculptures–including geometric and organic shapes, small additive and subtractive sculptures, instructions for making a mobile, and supplies for drawing in the gallery.
Although written for lower elementary students, the guide is suitable, with adult assistance, for younger children; it has been tested and approved by discriminating youngsters.
Families are encouraged to ask for Sculpture to Go at the visitor information table near the front entrance.
