Spring 2009 Projects

1. ACCION International

Project Leaders: Cailey Ryckman, cryckman@nd.edu and Pat Sturm, Jsturm@nd.edu

Meeting Time: 7:30pm Wednesday

Description: This project teams up with ACCION International, the world's leading microfinance institution that works to help several communities primarily in Latin America, Africa and Asia. In short, microfinance is a non-profit lending program that gives out small loans to members of impoverished or underdeveloped communities. This year the project will be extensively researching the benefits of sustainable microfinance and will be working on presentations to woo potential investors to ACCION.

 

2. Agribusiness Development Group - Ghana

Project Leader: Clare Heintz, cheint01@nd.edu

Meeting Time: 7pm Wednesday

Description: The focus of this project is to help Agribusiness Development Group (ADG), a start-up company founded by Notre Dame alumni, with a dried-fruit business in Ghana. ADG is a for-profit enterprise that will add value to tropical fruits in Ghana by drying and seeling them to markets in West Africa, North America, and Europe. ADG hopes to contribute to economic growth in Ghana and is strongly commited to social responsibility and the mission of giving back to the community.

 

3. SIBC Thailand Project

Project Leader: Eunice Ikene, eikene@nd.edu

Meeting Time: 6:30pm Wednesday

Description: The SIBC Thailand project is a research based project empowering SIBC's mission of "Peace Through Commerce" as the team conducts a feasibility study fo the SIBC to build a multi-media learning center for rural school children in Thailand, where the SIBC has its summer interns teaching English. In a real effort to establish an international presence, the team will be working on the building of the business plan for the project and will lay the foundation for future councils to complete the work.
