(A reception will be held at 4:00 p.m. in room 124,
following the seminar)

The new Advanced Physics Laboratory was established in Jordan Hall in the summer of 2006. The starting inventory was obtained from the University of Stuttgart transferring about 13 experiments from a well established Teaching Lab. In the following years the experiments were brought into operation and could be improved by generous Notre Dame investments. More experiments were built up to broaden the covered field, old Notre Dame experiments in General-, Atomic-, Nuclear-, Particle-, and Solid State Physics, 22 of them are ready to go. Many of the experiments are based on a previous Nobel Prize experiment and give fundamental insights in Modern Physics. The goal was that the students can learn every step of the experiment, the set-ups are fully accessible, some of them are state of the art research grade. The obtainable results can compare with best results presented in literature. In the last two years the lab achieved important outreach activities. The talk will give an overview on the status of the lab, its facilities and tools.
