Research
Interests
Professor Safronova investigates
relativistic and correlation effects in many-electron ions using
relativistic many-body methods derived from Quantum Electrodynamics.
These methods include second-order many-body perturbation theory.
Applications are made to determine energies, radiative and non-radiative
transition rates. These atomic data are important in modeling of
K-, L-, and M-shells radiation spectra of heavy ions generated in
electron beam ion trap experiments and in diagnostics of plasmas.
Particular attention is given to He-, Li-, Be-, B-, Mg, Al-, Ne-,
Na-, Ca-, Ni-, and Cu-like ions.
Prof.
Safronova is a co-author of four monographs: ''Theory of Spectra
of Multicharged Ions,'' ''Many-Body Problem and Atom Theory,'' ''Relativistic
Theory of Atoms,'' and. ''Spectroscopy of Autoionization States
of Atomic Systems'' published in Russian. She is a recipient of
the Japan Society Promotion Science Fellowship from National Institute
for Fusion Science in 1990, 1995, guest-professor National Institute
for Fusion Science in 2000 and Japan Atomic Research Institute in
2001. She presently is a Principal Scientific Researcher at the
Institute of Spectroscopy of Russian Academy of Science.
