Human Relationship Etiquette Forum

As Notre Dame seniors hunt for jobs, the university offers a number of resources to aid them in entering the professional world. Experts read through their resumes and cover letters before real companies even give them a glance. Real-life recruiters help them practice in mock interviews and even videotape them so students can re-live how weak their answers were. Alumni host dinners so students can learn to interact in social situations on a professional level. Some members of the student body, however, are not prepared to immerse themselves in the professional world because they are still unsure how to interact with family, friends, small children and animals that are more socially developed than they are. Lucky for us plebeians, Program of Liberal Studies (PLS) majors not only understand “great books” but are also able to commandeer business etiquette listservs to teach us the proper way to live our lives. So fear not, socially-inept students, senior PLS major Mike Clemente has an event catered especially to you and your unique needs.

Subject: Human Relationship Etiquette Forum
In conjunction with the Business Etiquette Forum held on Oct. 2, the ND Alumni-Student Club presents the Human Relationship Etiquette Forum on Oct. 10.

As a future business executive, you need to know professional relational etiquette and how to present yourself in various situations involving human interaction. Relational etiquette is an important skill for students to develop before graduating, as it has an impact on effective social networking, interviewing with potential spouses, and interacting with others in an inter-personal setting.

Professional Human Relations Coach Michael Clemente, principal of the Mechanism, Function and Utility of Human Relationships Club, will guide participants through the four most efficient steps for successful relationships, while providing insights and tips on everything from “how long to hug a new friend” to “how to cry during a funeral.” *Plus, each table will be hosted by a Notre Dame alumnus or alumna,* so you can put the skills you are learning to immediate use.

By attending the forum, you will be prepared to:
• Know how to achieve success in obtaining sustainable social capital at Notre Dame
• Gauge the value of a potential friend and whether he/she is worth a time investment
• Understand the ratio that supplies the balance of minimum relational input with maximum relational outcome benefits (i.e. “emotional needs” supply and demand chart)
• How and when to say “I love you” in order to achieve optimal emotional impact
• Anticipate and handle problematic friends
