"Beyond the Drafting Board": Celebrating 40 Years of Women at the Notre Dame School of Architecture

April 5-6, 2013; co-hosted by SAWA and the School of Architecture

This conference will showcase the extraordinary accomplishments of 5 women graduates from the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture across decades and career paths. It will be both a celebration of their successes, as well as an examination into other fields in which architecture degrees can be applicable. All speakers will present on Friday, April 5, but will also be present for an open career panel discussion over brunch on the morning of Saturday, April 6. Both events are open to students, faculty, and guests. For more information, including a tentative schedule and list of speakers, please check out the School of Architecture's website at Beyond the Drafting Board.

Past Events:

Chicago Boat Tour, October 2012

Thanks to a generous gift from a Notre Dame alumni, SAWA was able to bring 8 members to Chicago for an architectural boat tour on a beatiful Saturday morning, at no cost to the students. It was a lot of fun for everyone, and although the event was brand new this year, we look forward to putting it on again next year!

Seaside Luncheon, October 2011

During a School of Architecture conference celebrating 30 years of development and history in Seaside, Florida, SAWA hosted a lunch panel for students from the University of Notre Dame and Andrews University. The five female speakers at the conference answered questions regarding their experiences with gender differences in the workplace, striking a balance between career and family, and what lead them to their particular path in architecture. The panel was included Marianne Cusato, Christine Franck, Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, and other notable women from the conference.
