running

i have been a road runner for most of my adolescent and adult life. while i used to run mostly by myself - and not very competitively - back home in switzerland, i have been running with different groups in new york and los angeles since i moved to the states a few years ago.

in the 'big apple' i joined a group of moderately competitive runners in astoria, queens by the name of [hellgate road runners] (they adopted the name of a nearby railroad bridge).

more recently, i was invited to join a rather competitive group of runners in santa monica, california. the [fluffy bunny track club] is an ecclectic group of friends who share a passion for all things running (and then some, like [this one] from the seemingly unrelated disciplines of mathematical topology, biology, and yogi berra).

the website features the so-called [fluffyboard]. the crown jewel in this collection is my good friend LBTM's account of a not-so-usual weekend run; it is a [must read] for anyone who claims to be a runner!

southern california is a true running paradise. the weather is perfect for outdoor activities year-round and the local hills and mountains offer miles and miles of dirt roads and trails, such as 'will rogers' recreation area and 'topanga' state park.

we've mapped a few of our runs in urban los angeles, namely a loop around the 'brentwood country club' on san vicente blvd starting on the southeast corner of san vicente and 26th (click for a description of [mile markers] and a [map]). this is where we usually run our tempo and other nasty workouts. if you come across a bunch of topless guys on a saturday morning, chances are you ran into a bunny contingent.

if you're interested, you can check some of my [recent race results], from local (LA-area) races and a few other events.
