DESCRIPTION:
The St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Joseph County is a Catholic lay organization with a long history of service to neighbors in need. The organization offers support such as food, clothing and household necessities as well as emotional and spiritual support through one-on-one interaction with those who are suffering.
In fiscal year 2007, St. Vincent’s members made 6,909 home visits. During these visits the members provided more than 22,669 people with emergency food, clothing and financial assistance. More importantly, they brought friendship and compassion. Vincentians serve families throughout St. Joseph County, though more than 60% of our clients live on the west side of South Bend.
SVDP runs a Thrift Store on Ardmore Trail that in 2007 provided the means for giving away $138,267 worth of free clothing, furniture, beds and other household items to needy families. An additional $25,805 worth of free clothing was given to adults and children from The Center for the Homeless, Hope Rescue Mission, the YWCA, Life Treatment Center and Work Release.
