SISTERS OF THE HOLY CROSS
MINISTRIES OF GHANA

The Sisters of the Holy Cross have served in a variety of ministries in Ghana for the past 24 years.  During that time they have been enriched by the wonderful warmth and hospitality, and deep faith of the Ghanaian people.

The local government primary school near the convent in the town of Kasoa is very crowded and unsanitary.  School children in Ghana must take a national exam after the 9th grade and the results of the exam determine whether the child is able to go to secondary school.  Children whose families can not afford to send them to private school are severely handicapped in this process.  Most do poorly in the exams and thus are condemned to ongoing poverty.  The Sisters hope to break that cycle by providing high-quality primary education at a low cost.

The dream of starting a Catholic primary school in Ghana is becoming a reality.  On May2, 2007 the leadership team of the Sisters of the Holy Cross approved a proposal to build Our Lady of Holy Cross School.  Classes opened in the convent in September of 2007 and will move to the new building as soon as construction is completed.

We invite you to help continue this dream through contributions to Our Lady of Holy Cross School.  Contributions can be applied to the following:
            Scholarship assistance – School fees are currently $165 per year.
            School Uniforms – Two complete uniforms plus a P.E. outfit is $16 per child.
            Playground equipment and educational toys
            Transportation – Funds are being raised for a 15 seat van to transport students.
