Welcome

From June 18 to July 27, 2007,  at the University of Notre Dame, Joseph P. Amar, Professor of Arabic and Syriac, and Robin Darling Young, Associate Professor of Theology (Early Christianity) will lead a seminar entitled “The Middle East Between Rome and Persia: Early Christianity on the Path to Islam.”

The NEH-sponsored Summer Seminar devotes six weeks to examining the primary sources – both documentary and archaeological – and scholarly reconstructions that will allow participants to reconsider the cultural, linguistic and religious history of the marchlands of the near east during late antiquity. Along with the Christian communities of the region, it will also survey the interrelations among the other religious communities that made possible the emergence of Islam.

Sponsored by the Department of Theology, the Department of Classics, and the Program in Early Christian Studies.
