The Process

The Technology Transfer division of the Office of Research is responsible for managing the intellectual property assets of the University of Notre Dame. With the help of the faculty the technology transfer office will evaluate, patent, market and license Notre Dame technologies to commercial entities.

Technology transfer involves the transfer of research results to the commercial sector for the benefit of the public. It is an important way for universities to not only demonstrate the relevance of their research programs, but to introduce innovation to the marketplace, and ultimately enhance people's lives.

• show sponsors and taxpayers the benefits of fundamental
  research

• attract new faculty and students

• generate industrial support of research

• bring about new job opportunities for graduates

• share invention revenue with faculty
