Compensation: Salary Supplements

Some sponsors will pay only a portion of an investigator's salary for summer or other work.

This may also occur with release time appointments during the normal academic year. The salary shortfall may be due to:

- a shortage of funding
- agency policy or
- governmental action, such as a federal statute.

Unless the terms of the sponsor agreement prohibit it, salaries may be supplemented at the discretion of the department or college to the normal salary level if funds are available. In general no funding for this purpose is available from the Office of Research.
