Policy with Limited Submissions

Sponsor guidelines that limit the number of proposals that can be submitted from each institution are becoming increasingly common. Such programs will be announced by the Office of Research via e-mail to Deans, Chairs, and college and departmental research administrators appropriate to the announcement. The e-mail will announce the proposal due date and the deadline for notifying the Director of Sponsored Programs of individual faculty interest in applying. The deadline for notifying the Director of Sponsored Programs is two months prior to the proposal receipt or postmark deadline. An on-line form is available for making a request.

When more faculty are interested in submitting a proposal to the announced program than the maximum allows and the faculty are from the same department (and closely related centers and institutes), the department chair will organize his/her own review process to select the applicant(s).

When more faculty are interested in submitting a proposal to the announced program than the maximum allows and the faculty are from across departmental lines (and closely related centers and institutes) within the same college, the Dean will organize his/her own review process to select the applicant(s).

When more faculty are interested in submitting a proposal to the announced program than the maximum allows and the faculty are from across college lines, the Vice President, Graduate Studies and Research will make the determination based on submitted abstracts and input from the applicable deans.

Faculty who notify the Director of Sponsored Programs of their desire to submit a proposal after the stated deadline will be considered only if all slots have not been filled.
