Human Subjects Institutional Review Board Meeting Dates
The HSIRB reviews human
subject research at Notre Dame to ensure the ethical and equitable
treatment of those individuals under federal and state laws.
The level of risk to the human subjects determines the type of
review. Anything more than minimal risk requires full-committee
review. Anything minimal risk or less may qualify for expedited
review or exempt certification. Once the project begins, there
will be continuing reviews at least every 12 months.
Human
Subjects Institutional Review Board. The HSIRB meets monthly during
the academic year (generally every fourth Wednesday of the month) and
at least once during the summer. The dates of upcoming meetings are

A protocol must be submitted to the Executive Secretary at least one
week prior to the scheduled meeting. After review, the Executive Secretary
will notify the investigator in writing as to the status of the protocol. Any
changes recommended by the HSIRB must be incorporated into the protocol and
implemented.
- Copies of revised documents are forwarded to the Executive
Secretary for the protocol file before the research begins.
- Amendments to an approved protocol may be submitted in
writing to the Executive Secretary. Amendments will be reviewed by the HSIRB
chair and Executive Secretary to determine if the amendment represents a significant
change from the approved protocol. If deemed significant, a new protocol must
be submitted for full HSIRB review.
- If project lasts more than 12 months, undergo Continuing
Review.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Meeting Dates
All research involving live vertebrate animals must be reviewed and approved
by the Institutional
Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) prior to the initiation
of the research and before a research award can be accepted. The IACUC
meets monthly during the academic year (generally every third Wednesday
of the month) and at least once during the summer. The dates of upcoming

Secretary of the IACUC.

Equipment
Restoration & Renewal Program for 2006-2007
The Office of Research is pleased to continue the Equipment Restoration
and Renewal Program for the 2006-2007 academic year. This program is
designed to provide University funds to restore or replace equipment
required for current research and other scholarly activities.
Please see the attached guidelines for further information on submitting
a proposal. Proposals are due to the appropriate College Dean's office

Grants.gov
Workshops this Fall
With more and more federal agencies requiring submission through the
new Grants.gov system, the Office of Research has scheduled workshops
for the fall semester.

What is Grants.gov?
It is an electronic system allowing the research community to electronically
find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all Federal agencies.
All federal agencies are exected to require the use of this system over
the next year.
Where?
The workshops will be held in DeBartolo, Room B002 Training Lab A.
Who should attend?
Anyone in the Notre Dame research community who may use this system is
welcome to register for the workshops. Seating is limited, however, so
sign up as soon as you can to reserve your seat. Register at iLearn@nd
