Moves Date for R01 Submissions to 2007
The National Institutes of Health has adjusted the timeline for Electronic
Application Submission moving the date for R01 submissions to the February
1, 2007 deadline. The notice is posted to the NIH Guide at: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-06-035.html The
notice includes a revised timeline for the R01 and all subsequent mechanism
submissions.
The notice recognizes the concerns expressed by the Council on Governmental
Relations and others in the applicant community and hopes that both
NIH and the community will benefit from the additional time to address
business process and infrastrucuture needs.
President's
Budget Requests Increase of $439 Million for NSF -FY2007
The
President's budget for fiscal year 2007 requests $6.02 billion for
the National Science Foundation--an increase of $439 million or 7.9
percent over fiscal year 2006. The increase reflects a 10-year budget-doubling
effort for NSF and other agencies as part of the American Competitiveness
Initiative that President Bush announced in the State of Union address
last week.
The fiscal year 2007 request for NSF's four broad funding categories
is:
• $2.9 billion (up
6.1 percent) for discovery across the frontier of science and engineering,
connected to learning, innovation and service to society$1.68 billion (up 13.2
percent) for braodly accessible state-of-the-art science and engineering facilities,
tools and other infrastructure that enable discovery, learning and innovation$1.07
billion (up 3.8 percent) for a diverse, competitive, and globally engaged U.S.
workforce of scientists, engineers, technologists and well-prepared citizens
• $350 million (up 11.6 percent) for an agile, innovative organization
that fulfills its mission through leadership in state-of-the-art business practices
In addition, the NSF portfolio emphasizes four priorities that will
strengthen the science and engineering enterprise through investments in frontier
research, the workforce, education, and cutting-edge research funds. Those
areas are:
• Advancing the FrontierBroadening
Participation in the Science and Engineering EnterpriseProviding World-Class
Facilities and Infrastructure
• Bolstering K-12 Education

can be checked out for a two-week period and they can be delivered
