So who are we?

"PI TAU SIGMA is the International Honor Society for Mechanical Engineers. Pi Tau Sigma members are chosen on a basis of sound engineering ability, scholarship service, leadership, and integrity. The Pi Tau Sigma mission is to strive to create better engineers through commitment to academic excellence and dedication to service. Pi Tau Sigma prides itself in the core values: Integrity (soundness of character and moral conduct), Service (serving the mechanical engineering profession and the community), and Leadership (fostering initiative through example in a professional manner). Pi Tau Sigma is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. There are presently 178 collegiate chapters at universities in the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Qatar."

Pi Tau Sigma members are chosen on a basis of sound engineering ability, scholarship, personality, and probable future success in their chosen field of Mechanical Engineering. Juniors and Seniors in the top 25% of their class are invited to join.

In addition to exemplary achievement in academics and research, Pi Tau Sigma members give back to their community through a mentorship program for undergraduate engineers, volunteering with the MathCounts program, promoting science education to local school children, hosting a career information night for mechanical engineering majors, and facilitating professor-student relationships through dinners and class information sessions. Graduating members achieve successful careers with professional integrity in a wide variety of fields.

The Sigma Beta Chapter at the University of Notre Dame was founded in 1964. Contact us at pts@nd.edu or visit the National Pi Tau Sigma website for more information.
