One year of Physical Education is a University requirement for graduation. Since no exams are given, your grade of (S) Satisfactory or (U) Unsatisfactory is determined by the following:
Classes - Unless otherwise specified classes will meet two (2) times per week at the site designated by your instructor. Students should dress in attire deemed appropriate by the instructor. Gym shoes worn for daily use may NOT be worn to indoor classes. A second pair of shoes for specified indoor/outdoor classes may be required. Students are required to complete two (2) semesters (six units) of Physical Education during their first year, with exceptions listed below. Please note the following important information:
Attendance - Class attendance is expected. THERE ARE NO ABSENCES ALLOWED WITHOUT MAKE-UP.
Should questions arise regarding class absences (or tardiness), they should be dealt with your instructor during the unit of the occurrence.
Leaving Class – If it is necessary to leave class early the student must notify the instructor. Leaving class without permission from the instructor may result in an “Unsatisfactory” grade for the semester.
Independent Study - Special situations do arise such as injury, hospitalization, or other inabilities to continue certain activities. Absences due to illness/injury will be handled by the Program Coordinator of the Independent Study Program. If the student qualifies, a personalized program will be structured to help facilitate the completion of the P.E. requirement.
Tardiness - If a student arrives late it is their responsibility to report it to instructor at the end of class. Arriving at class more then ten minutes late will constitute an absence
Swimming - The University has a policy that all students should be able to protect themselves in the water; therefore all students are required to take a swim test.
Locker Arrangements - Lockers are available at the Rockne Memorial Building. A rental fee entitles you to a locker, lock, and towel service for the academic year.
Insurance - It is strongly recommended that all students join the University’s Accident Insurance Plan unless presently covered by a family or personal plan.
