About PEMCo
For more than ten years, Notre Dame had not had a musical on its campus. Then, in 1997, Kelly McGann, a resident of PE decided that this needed to change. From this, PEMCo was born. Since its inception, PEMCo has been the largest student-run musical theater company on campus and it has produced a high-quality show with capacity-brimming audiences every year. PEMCo is comprised of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's students from all majors and backgrounds. It is complemented by a pit orchestra made up of students and includes members of the Notre Dame Band.
“...I'd like to say we've come a long way from our humble beginnings, but our beginnings weren't so humble. That first production was the most elaborate to date. So what is PEMCo that it wasn't five years ago? We now are an established group, no longer an experiment. The Notre Dame community expects from us a certain level of performance, and we can't sneak up on it with our talent alone. We must show something it doesn't expect and impress it with our ingenuity. PEMCo is now, more than ever, here to stay and that is in large part because of those who have come before, and that responsibility is in the hands of those who are to come after...I hope you see the bond between the members of this group, not only in the people who are on the stage but in the people who have been in any PEMCo production, for their influence is certainly still present. You are about to see a show that has been in the works for ten months, but more importantly you are about to see an idea that has been in the works for five years...” –Ryan Cunningham, Director, Damn Yankees, PEMCo 2001-2002
