Transposition of the Great Vessels

As you can see by the defective heart on the right, with a transposition the pulmonary artery (PA) and the aorta (AO) are reversed. So, instead of blood pumping from the heart to the lungs to the heart to the body, Julia's heart was sending blood on two separate circuits: One circuit was heart to lungs to heart to lungs; the other circuit was heart to body to heart to body. The section showing blood spilling into the left side of the heart is what Julia's other defect, the ASD, looked like.
