POINT MUTATIONS

A point mutation is a random change in one of the nucleotide bases in a sequence of DNA, such that the mRNA will code for a different protein during protein synthesis. This usually occurs during the replication phase in mitosis (interphase). This is also sometimes referred to as a substitution mutation.
